Uljana Semjonova cup 2017 - already in next week

06.09.2017 / Administrators
As we wrote before, from 14th till 17th of September, 2017, already for the sixth time, there will be held international tournament in basketball for girls - Uljana Semjonova cup - that will take place in basketball school “Riga” sports halls “Daugavas sporta nams” and “Rīdzene”.

There will be 12 teams competing in the tournament together from 7 countries – Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Hungary, Slovakia, Russia and Belarus.

In group U-15  Latvia and Riga will be represented by 2 teams – BS Riga/Ridzene and BS Riga/Jugla, as well as four invited teams  – Young Angels Academy from Kosice (Slovakia), Soproni Darazsak Akademia (Sopron, Hungary), SK Audentes (Tallinn, Estonia) and Kalina district Olympic reserve sports school from St.Petersburg (Russia).

Girls from the team BS Riga/Ridzene are playing together already for the 4th season and the team is supervised by their coach Liga Alilujeva. Team consists of girls born in 2003 and 2004. During this time they have experienced a lot – many highs and lows. They have been in top award winning places in several European tournaments. The team is previous season’s Latvian Youth League’s vice champion. Girls will never give up even if they’re losing the game – the coach wouldn’t let them, because there is always something you can learn even from unsuccessful games.

Team BS Riga/Jugla is the champion of Latvian Youth basketball league in 2016 and 2017, in EYBL last season they got the 4th place. Four players of the team – Elizabete Bulāne, Elizabete Zālīte, Paula Cirša and Una Žeimute are members of Latvian National U-14 team. Coach of the team Diāna Kuzina is working with the team already for five years.

Team SK Audentes is Estonian champions in U-14 age group of the season 2016/2017. SK Audentes is the largest youth sports club in Estonia and the best girls basketball club in season 2016/2017 – they got championships in U-12, U-14 and U-16 age groups, as well as silver medals in U-18 age group.

Soproni Darazsak Akademia was founded in 1997 and since 2012 the club is working as girls basketball academy and is the first this kind of school in Hungary.  At this moment there are more than 400 girls in age from 6 to 18 years who are taking part in the program.

Young Angels academy – is participating in Uljana Semjonova cup tournament with teams both in U-15 and U-17 age groups. Since season  2008/2009 Young Angels Košice are competing in tournaments as young basketball hopes for the professional women’s basketball club Good Angels Košice. The talented players from the metropolis of the Eastern Slovakia have succeeded in obtaining 15 champions´ titles, 9 cups for the second places and 7 for bronze rankings as participating in the national championship which means that the club´s collection of 14 champions´ titles and 12 first places in the Slovak cup competition created by their older senior colleagues could be successfully extended. Starting the new season, they are going to represent a new club on the basketball map, bearing the name YOUNG ANGELS ACADEMY.

Kalina district Olympic reserve sports school – team was founded 4 years ago by well known coaches Olga Abrikosova and Olga Jakovlev. The team is last season’s champions in St.Petersburg. Coach Olga Jakovleva and Uljana Semjonova have been teammates in team USSR.

In Group U-17  there are also six teams competing -  team Nevskaja from St.Petersburg (Russia), Young Angels academy from Kocice (Slovakia), Vilniaus basketball school (Lithuania),  team Grodno (Belarus), BS RIGA/TTP and  BS RIGA/Ridzene teams from Riga.

BS Riga/Ridzene  team has won Latvian Youth Basketball league championship for 3 times, and in 2015 they got the 3rd place in Uljana Semjonova cup tournament. There are two Latvian National U-16 team members as well as seven nominees of the national team represented in this team.

BS Riga/TTP team consists of girls born in 2001 and with their coach Maija Kublina they have won the Latvian championship for two times. Some of the players are members of the Latvian national U-16 team, but one of them has represented Latvian National team in U-20 European Championship.  Girls have previously participated in Uljana Semjonova cup and got the 1st place in the tournament.
